About

Originally envisioned as a not quite complete guide to PAL region releases for the PS2, it took a couple of years, a change in focus from "not quite complete" to "ill advised attempt at complete" and a Sisters of Mercy binge to finally give me the impetus to get started.

From multi-million sellers to games that had a print-run of approximately 1005 and were only released in one European country by a developer whose staff seemingly consisted solely of the owner and his immediate family (who were responsible for everything from programming to voice acting to packing), if a game was released in PAL format for the PS2 then I aim to play it through fully and feature it here. Eventually.

I'm aware that attempting to play through, much less write about, every PAL PS2 release is doomed to failure. From the sheer number of releases (roughly 2238 at the time of writing as far as I can tell) to the existence of PAL versions of Dora the Explorer - Journey to the Purple Planet, there are countless reasons why success would be it's own punishment.

But isn't it better to fail at something everyone else knows better than to try than to succeed at what hundreds if not thousands have already done? Or more candidly, isn't it useful to have an excuse to give your significant other when you've just paid good money on eBay for a game based on something you have no interest in, in a language that you don't understand ("Le avventure di "Lupin III": Lupin la morte, Zenigata l'amore")?

And who knows, if I do manage to keep to my aim of averaging one game per week, by the time I'm 76 I'll actually succeed. At this anyway, the rest of life I'm not so sure about.
